I thought the same. I read the original comic, so my expectation was low. Regardless, I saw the film to help support LGBT representation in film.
That said, they do get somewhat of a real romance going. It's not one-sided. It's not just there for titillation. The movie is very clear about the fact that they are in love. It also pads out her role so the character is far more fleshed out. She doesn't go out like a punk either.
It's not perfect. They don't walk into the sunset together. For what it's worth though? It's probably the best queer representation we're going to get this year, if not for the next several years. Not to mention, this is the first wide-release action film staring a legit bisexual women who is in love with another women.
I thought it was worth seeing, and I damn well hope this movie gets more support. Who knows? Maybe this might help us get a queer romance in the Marvel movies soon.
I definitely recommend you all see it too. It's not gonna take a lot of us to rocket this into a box office success. In the age of Trump we need as many wins as we can get.
