I got yet another twist in something I'm writing from a nightmare I had...
A magic academy exists in a world where giant insects are the norm rather than the exception, and even humans have symbiotes that make them part arthropod. An ancient and extremely powerful race ruled over the world in the past, which is responsible for all of the above...and the presence of magic.
This academy is called the Academy of the Dragonborn, and its students are invaridbly powerful. They are told they are descendants of all-powetful dragons, which is why they're so damn powerful. However, they're also told to keep their grades up, otherwise very bad things happen.
So what are these bad things? Apparently the academy's development was spurred by the discovery of a large dragonfly species. Genetic testing showed that it in fact shared the majority of its DNA with humans, suggesting that both races were distant descendants of the anicients themselves. Thus a plan was hatched to put the two together, which means a lot of dragonflies banging up specially chosen women for a couple of more feylike babies. Thankfully the hope is that by cycling through this multiple times they could create something close to the ancients, and in greater quantity, which is why anyone that fails their classes gets thrown in and used as incubators like their mother.
And yes, they're offspring of a giant dragonfly father and a human mother. All of them.
TL;DR a magic academy where failing your classes leads to violation by giant dragonflies.
